Here are three Spanish-language Web portals that offer many channels for searching the Internet in Spanish. You will find that you don't have to be fluent in Spanish to take advantage of some of their services.

Each of these portals offers information on weather conditions and predictions around the world. Search one or more of them to complete the activities. Key words for searching for weather information are:
tiempo / clima / weather
pronóstico / forecast

Pick a city in the Spanish-speaking world or the city where you live, and find out what the weather is today. What city did you pick? What weather conditions did you recognize? What was the temperature? Was the temperature given in Fahrenheit or Celsius?
What are some of the symbols used to indicate weather conditions? Can you give the Spanish word(s) for the condition these symbols indicate?
Write down three or four of the Spanish cognates you found on the weather page and their meanings.
Can you guess what the word actual means in the expressions condiciones actuales and temperatura actual? How about the terms parcialmente nublado and mayormente nublado? What do the abbreviations máx. and mín. mean?
What other services and features offered by the Web portal do you recognize? Feel free to explore some of them. What did you learn?
