QUARTER SYSTEM
Lesson 14

(10 days, including one for testing)
Day 1
IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Warm up by chatting with the class using previously learned vocabulary, phrases, and structures.
  2. Briefly go over the Lesson 14 objectives. To orient your students to the lesson theme, have them explain what's going on in the lesson opener photograph.
  3. Present the illustrated Contextos vocabulary using Transparencies 50-51. You should also point out to students the vocabulary contained in the Más vocabulario box. In addition, you may want to point out and discuss the information contained in the Variación léxica and ¡ATENCIÓN! boxes.
  4. Using the Student Cassette/CD, work through Práctica activity 1 with the class. Then have your class work through your choice of the remaining activities.
  5. Have your students do any assigned Práctica activities, work through your choice of the remaining Práctica activities.
  6. Preview the Fotonovela.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Have your students read the Fotonovela and familiarize themselves with the Expresiones útiles and the Enfoque cultural.
  2. Have your students prepare one or more of the Reacciona a la fotonovela activities so you can go over them orally during the next class session.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
  1. Have your students do the Lesson 14 Contextos activities in the Workbook Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.
  2. Have your students do the Lesson 14 Contextos activities in the Laboratory Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.
  3. Have students work through the Lesson 14 Contextos section on the Interactive CD-ROM.

Day 2
IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

  1. Warm up by chatting with the class using previously learned vocabulary, phrases, and structures. Ask a few of your students to give you directions to well-known campus locations using the functional expressions found in the Expresiones útiles.
  2. Discuss the Enfoque cultural with the class.
  3. Through class discussion, go over the plot of this lesson's video episode. Then use the Video CD-ROM or the VHS tape to play the video episode. Finally, ask your students a few comprehension questions.
  4. You may want to ask your students to act out all or part of the video episode without looking at the textbook. Encourage them to think creatively and ad-lib in Spanish if they forget their lines.
  5. Go over the assigned Reacciona a la fotonovela activities. Have the class work through your choice of the remaining Reacciona a la fotonovela activities.
  6. Preview and present the Ortografía page then work through your choice of the activities with your class.
  7. Preview Estructura 14.1.

ASSIGNMENT

  1. Have your students study Estructura 14.1.
  2. Have your students prepare the Inténtalo activity and Práctica activity 1 so that you can go over them orally during the next class session.

ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS

  1. Have your students review the Lesson 14 video module on the Video CD-ROM and do the corresponding activities in the Video Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.
  2. Have your students work through the Lesson 14 Fotonovela section on the Interactive CD-ROM.
  3. Have your students do the Lesson 14 Pronunciación section in the Laboratory Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.
  4. Have your students work through the Lesson 14 Ortografía activities on the Interactive CD-ROM.
