Lesson 5

(11 days, including one for testing)

Day 1
IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Warm up by chatting with the class using previously learned vocabulary, phrases, and structures.
  2. Briefly go over the Lesson 5 objectives. To orient your students to the lesson theme, have them explain what's going on in the lesson opener photograph.
  3. Present the Contextos vocabulary, using Transparencies 23-24. Point out and discuss the information contained in Variación léxica and the ¡ATENCIÓN! notes.
  4. Using the Student Cassette/CD, work through Práctica activity 1 with the class.
  5. Go over your choice of the remaining Práctica activities with the class.
  6. Have your students do Comunicación activities 6 and/or 7.
  7. Preview the Fotonovela.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Have your students read the Fotonovela and prepare a brief plot summary for the next class session.
  2. Have your students familiarize themselves with the Expresiones útiles.
  3. Have your students write Comunicación activity 8 to turn in at the next class session.
  4. Have your students look over Comunicación activity 9 in preparation for doing skits during the next class session.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
  1. Have your students do the Lesson 5 Contextos activities in the Workbook Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.
  2. Have your students do the Lesson 5 Contextos activities in the Laboratory Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.
  3. Have students work through the Lesson 5 Contextos section on the Interactive CD-ROM.

Day 2
IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

  1. Warm up by chatting with the class using previously learned vocabulary, phrases, and structures.
  2. Have your students share their Comunicación activity 8 homework with a partner or the class; take up the homework when finished.
  3. Have your students prepare and present one or more skits as directed in Comunicación activity 9.
  4. Ask your students to summarize orally the plot of the Fotonovela. Work with the class as a whole to arrive at an accurate plot summary.
  5. Discuss the Enfoque cultural with the class.
  6. Play the Lesson 5 video module using the Video CD-ROM or VHS tape.
  7. Ask a few comprehension questions and then have the class work through your choice of the Reacciona a la fotonovela activities.
  8. Preview Estructura 5.1.

ASSIGNMENT

  1. Have your students study Estructura 5.1.
  2. Have your students prepare the Inténtalo activity and one or more of the Práctica activities so that you can go over them during the next class session.

ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS

  1. Have your students review the Lesson 5 video module on the Video CD-ROM
  2. Have you students do the corresponding activities in the Video Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.
  3. Have your students do the Fotonovela activities on the Interactive CD-ROM.
