QUARTER SYSTEM
Lesson 4

(9 days, including 1 for testing)

Day 1
IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Warm up by chatting with the class using previously learned vocabulary, phrases, and structures.
  2. Briefly go over the Lesson 4 objectives. In order to orient your students to this lesson's theme, have them explain what's going on in the lesson opener photograph.
  3. Present the Contextos vocabulary using Transparencies 19 and 20. Point out the Variación léxica information.
  4. Go over the assigned Práctica activities with the class. Then have the class work through your choice of the remaining Práctica activities.
  5. Have your students do your choice of the Comunicación activities.
  6. Briefly preview the Fotonovela section.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Have your students read the Lesson 4 Fotonovela and familiarize themselves with the Expresiones útiles in preparation for watching the Lesson 4 video module on the Video CD-ROM.
  2. Have your students prepare written answers to one or more of the Reacciona a la fotonovela activities.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
  1. Have your students do the Lesson 4 Contextos activities in the Workbook Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.
  2. Have your students do the Lesson 4 Contextos activities in the Laboratory Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.
  3. Have students work through the Lesson 4 Contextos section on the Interactive CD-ROM.
  4. Have your students watch the Lesson 4 video module on the Video CD-ROM and do the corresponding activities in the Video Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.

Day 2
IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

  1. Warm up by chatting with the class using previously learned vocabulary, phrases, and structures.
  2. Play the Lesson 4 video module in class using the Video CD/ROM or VHS tape.
  3. Take up your students' written answers to the assigned Reacciona a la fotonovela activities. At this point you may want to go over the activities briefly with the class.
  4. Go over your choice of the remaining Reacciona a la fotonovela activities with the class.
  5. Have your students act out the Fotonovela in small groups without looking at the book. Circulate around the classroom and provide assistance as needed. So that students won't simply parrot back the language they've seen and heard, periodically stop them and ask them to explain what they are talking about.
  6. Briefly preview the Pronunciación section.
  7. Preview Estructura 4.1.

ASSIGNMENT

  1. Have your students read Estructura 4.1.
  2. Have your students prepare the ¡Inténtalo! activity and one or more of the Práctica activities to go over orally during the next class session.
  3. Have your students work through the Pronunciación section using the textbook and the Student Cassette/CD.

ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS

  1. Have your students do the Lesson 4 Pronunciación section in the Laboratory Activities section of the Student Activities Manual.
  2. Have your students work through the Lesson 4 Pronunciación activities on the Interactive CD-ROM.
  3. Have your students do the Lesson 4 Fotonovela activities on the Interactive CD-ROM.
