Day 4

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Present the vocabulary list for El eclipse, modeling the Spanish words and expressions. Have students discuss the Conexión personal questions in Antes de leer in pairs. Encourage students to use the vocabulary just presented.
  2. Direct students’ attention to Sobre el autor. Ask them how El eclipse illustrates Monterroso’s use of black humor.
  3. Follow the suggestion in the anno to have students discuss the setting of the story and what previous knowledge they brought to their reading of the story. Have them refer to Análisis literario and Estrategia de lectura.
  4. Work through Después de leer activities 1 and 2 for El eclipse with the class. Put students in pairs for activity 3.
  5. Put students in groups of three and have them discuss and peer correct each other’s paragraphs for Después de leer activity 4 for El eclipse. As a class, discuss the idea of conquest.
  6. Collect and correct the paragraphs students wrote for Después de leer activity 4 for El eclipse.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study Estructura 6.3 and Estructura 6.4.
  2. Prepare the Práctica and Comunicación activities for Estructura 6.3 and Estructura 6.4 for oral work during the next class.
  3. Complete the activities for Exploración from the FACETAS web site, to be submitted electronically before the next class.
  4. Begin preparing the Lecturas activities from the FACETAS web site to be submitted electronically before class on Day 8.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS

  1. Do the corresponding exercises for Estructura 6.3 and Estructura 6.4 in the workbook section of the Student Activities Manual.
  2. Do the corresponding exercises for Estructura 6.3 and Estructura 6.4 in the lab manual section of the Student Activities Manual in conjunction with the Lab Audio CD or MP3 Files Audio CD-ROM.
  3. Prepare the Composición section in the workbook section of the Student Activities Manual and do the corresponding activities.
