IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Warm up the class with a short session of “Simón dice,...,” letting different students take the leadership role.
  2. Put students in small groups to go over step A of A conversar.
  3. Put students in groups of three and complete A conversar.
  4. Debrief A conversar by having the groups report their three new pieces of advice to the whole class.
  5. Present the vocabulary list for the second reading, Perfil: El doctor Carlos J. Finlay, modeling the Spanish words and expressions. Ask students what role disease plays in our lives. Encourage them to use the vocabulary for the reading. Have them discuss the Conexión personal question in Antes de leer in pairs.
  6. Collect and correct students’ advice for A escribir.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Read Antes de leer and study the Vocabulario for Perfil: El doctor Carlos J. Finlay.
  2. Read Perfil: El doctor Carlos J. Finlay and prepare the Después de leer activities for the next class.
  3. Continue preparing the Lecturas activities from the FACETAS web site to be submitted electronically before class on Day 9.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
  1. Read the Lectura section in the workbook section of the Student Activities Manual and do the corresponding activities.
