Day 3

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Review Expresiones útiles (p. 7) by asking students questions using the expressions.
  2. Have students do Práctica activity 1 for Estructura 1.1 (p. 14) in pairs. Work through Práctica activities 2 and 3 (p. 14) with the class.
  3. Work through Comunicación activity 4 for Estructura 1.1 (p. 15) with the class. Have students do activity 5 in pairs.
  4. Work through the Práctica activities for Estructura 1.2 (p. 18) with the class.
  5. Have students do Comunicación activities 4 and 5 for Estructura 1.2
    (p. 19) in pairs. Then have them write out their answers to Comunicación activity 6, part A, and work in groups of six for part B.
  6. Present the painting and quote on the Lecturas section opener (p. 30). Use the suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for Lecturas in the Instructor’s Resource Manual.
  7. Explain to students how they should approach reading a literary work in Spanish. (See Suggestions for Using Lecturas, page IAE-12). Preview and explain the purpose of the Análisis literario, Estrategia de lectura, and Vocabulario subsections in Antes de leer (p. 31).
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the Vocabulario for Aqueronte (p. 31).
  2. Read Antes de leer for Aqueronte (p. 31).
  3. Read Aqueronte (pp. 32–35).
  4. Complete the mood chart in Análisis literario (p. 31).
  5. Prepare the Después de leer activities for Aqueronte (p. 36) for the next class. Exercise 4 is a written exercise.
  6. Continue preparing the activities for Exploración from the FACETAS web site, to be submitted electronically by the end of class on Day 5.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
  1. Do the exercises for Estructura 1.1 and Estructura 1.2 on the FACETAS CD-ROM.
