IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Put students in groups of three to read and peer review each other’s news stories. Then have students read their news story to the class. Encourage students to ask questions on each story and to discuss for which type of periodical each “reporter” works.
  2. Present the painting and quote on the Lecturas section opener. Present the vocabulary list for Tiempo libre, modeling the Spanish words and expressions.
  3. Have students discuss the Conexión personal questions in Antes de leer in pairs. Ask pairs to summarize their discussions for the class and to share their criteria for selecting one news publication over another. Encourage students to use the vocabulary just presented.
  4. Read Contexto cultural with the class.
  5. Present Análisis literario and Estrategia de lectura.
  6. Collect and correct the book reviews that students wrote for A escribir.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the Vocabulario for Tiempo libre.
  2. Read Tiempo libre.
  3. Draw conclusions about the symbolism of the event described (Análisis literario and Estrategia de lectura).
  4. Prepare the Después de leer activities for Tiempo libre for the next class. Do activity 4 in writing.
  5. Go to the ENFOQUES web site and prepare the Lecturas activity to be submitted electronically before class on Day 12.
