IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Have each group present its advertising poster and explain its advertising campaign. The class should ask each group questions about its campaign.
  2. Put students in small groups. Ask them to discuss the importance of work. Encourage them to use the grammar and vocabulary from Lección 7 in their discussions. Have each group present the results of its discussion to the class.
  3. Present the painting and quote on the Lecturas section opener. Present the vocabulary list for La prodigiosa tarde de Baltazar, modeling the Spanish words and expressions.
  4. Put students in pairs to discuss the Conexión personal questions for La prodigiosa tarde de Baltazar. Ask pairs to summarize their discussions for the class.
  5. Direct students’ attention to Sobre el autor. Ask them to augment the information provided with their research on Gabriel García Márquez and magic realism.
  6. Have students read the first 30 lines of the story aloud. Ask them to describe the story’s setting and the personality of Baltazar and Úrsula. Ask them what they think the cage might symbolize (Análisis literario).
  7. Collect and correct the movie plot summaries that students wrote up for A escribir.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Read Antes de leer and study Vocabulario for La prodigiosa tarde de Baltazar.
  2. Read La prodigiosa tarde de Baltazar.
  3. Prepare Después de leer activities 1, 2, and 3 for La prodigiosa tarde de Baltazar for the next class.
  4. Go to the ENFOQUES web site and prepare the Lecturas activity to be submitted electronically before class on Day 12.
