IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Have students work in small groups to prepare a narration that uses as many of the verbs presented in Estructura 1.3 (pp. 22–23) and as many different uses of ser and estar (Estructura 1.4, pp. 26–27) as possible. Each group presents its narration to the class, and a tally is kept of each correct use of one of the verbs studied.
- Present the painting and quote on the Lecturas section opener (p. 32). Present the vocabulary list (p. 33), modeling the Spanish words and expressions.
- Discuss the Conexión personal (p. 33) questions in Antes de leer for Poema 20 with the class. Encourage students to use the vocabulary just presented. Have students read the Contexto Cultural (p. 33).
- Explain to students how they should approach reading a literary work in Spanish. Present and explain the purpose of the Análisis literario, Estrategia de lectura, and Vocabulario subsections in Antes de leer (p. 33).
- Collect and correct the letters students wrote for A escribir (p. 31).
ASSIGNMENT
- Study Vocabulario for Poema 20 (p. 33).
- Read Poema 20 (pp. 34–35).
- Complete the personification chart in Análisis literario (p. 33).
- Prepare Después de leer activities 1 and 2 for Poema 20 (p. 36) for the next class.
- Go to the ENFOQUES web site and prepare the Lecturas activity to be submitted electronically before class on Day 12.
