Day 1

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Introduce yourself, present the course syllabus, and explain the course objectives.
  2. Present the Contextos paragraphs (pp. 2–3), having various students read the paragraphs aloud and checking comprehension using the suggestions in the annotations in the Instructor’s Annotated Edition.
  3. Present the vocabulary list (p. 3), modeling the Spanish words and expressions.
  4. Do the Práctica activities for Contextos (p. 4) with the class. Have students provide sentences with the words defined in activity 1.
  5. Preview Fotonovela and Expresiones útiles (pp. 6–7).
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the lesson vocabulary (pp. 2–3). Select 10 vocabulary words and create Spanish definitions for them.
  2. Read Fotonovela (pp. 6–7) and watch the video episode on the ENFOQUES CD-ROM.
  3. Prepare the Comprensión activities for Fotonovela (p. 8) for oral work during the next class.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
  1. Do the corresponding Contextos exercises in the workbook section of the Student Activities Manual.
  2. Do the corresponding Contextos exercises in the lab manual section of the Student Activities Manual in conjunction with the Lab Audio CD or MP3 Files Audio CD-ROM.
  3. Do the corresponding Contextos exercises on the ENFOQUES CD-ROM.
  4. Do the corresponding video activities in the Student Activities Manual.
