(8 days, including 1 for testing. Each class = 50 minutes.)

Day 3

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Review Expresiones útiles by asking students questions using the expressions.
  2. Work through the Práctica y Comunicación activities for Estructura 12.1 with the class. Students will work in pairs for activity 1.
  3. Work through the Práctica activities for Estructura 12.2 with the class. Students will work in pairs for activities 2, 3, and 4. Follow the suggestion in the anno in the IAE to expand activity 2 by having students make a timeline for themselves.
  4. Have students begin Comunicación activity 5 for Estructura 12.2 individually, then work in pairs. Put students in pairs for activity 6 and in small groups for activity 7.
  5. Present the painting and quote on the Lecturas section opener. Ask students how the quote can be applied to the picture. Use the suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for Lecturas in the Instructor’s Resource Manual to direct/expand the discussion. Ask students how the quote and picture tie into the lesson theme, la historia y la civilización.
  6. Present the vocabulary list for El prócer, modeling the Spanish words and expressions. Have students discuss in small groups the Conexión personal questions in Antes de leer for El prócer. Encourage students to use the vocabulary just presented.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Read Antes de leer for El prócer.
  2. Study the Vocabulario for El prócer.
  3. Read El prócer.
  4. Prepare the Después de leer activities for El prócer for the next class.
  5. Continue preparing the activities for Enfoques from the ENFOQUES web site, to be submitted electronically before class on Day 5.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
  1. Do the exercises for Estructura 12.1 and Estructura 12.2 on the ENFOQUES CD-ROM.
  2. Read the Lectura section in the workbook section of the Student Activities Manual and do the corresponding activities.
