Day 3

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Review Expresiones útiles by asking students questions using the expressions.
  2. Work through the Práctica y Comunicación activities for Estructura 8.1 with the class. Students will work in small groups for activity 3. Follow the suggestions in the annos in the IAE to extend activities 1 and 2.
  3. Work through the Práctica activities for Estructura 8.2 with the class. Students will work in pairs for activity 4.
  4. Put students in pairs to complete Comunicación activities 1 and 2 for Estructura 8.2. Follow the suggestions in the annos in the IAE to extend the activities.
  5. Present the painting and quote on the Lecturas section opener. Ask students how the quote can be applied to the picture. Use the suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for Lecturas in the Instructor’s Resource Manual to direct/expand the discussion. Ask students how the quote and picture tie into the lesson theme, la religión y la política.
  6. Present the vocabulary list for Dos palabras, modeling the Spanish words and expressions. Put students in small groups to discuss the Conexión personal questions in Antes de leer for Dos palabras. Encourage students to use the vocabulary just presented. Have students read the Contexto cultural. Present Análisis literario and Estrategia de lectura.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the Vocabulario for Dos palabras.
  2. Read Dos palabras.
  3. List details in Dos palabras that are fantastic, magical, and impossible and decide how they fit into the daily life that the story presents.
  4. Prepare the Después de leer activities for Dos palabras for the next class.
  5. Continue preparing the activities for Enfoques from the ENFOQUES web site, to be submitted electronically before class on Day 5.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
  1. Do the exercises for Estructura 8.1 and Estructura 8.2 on the ENFOQUES CD-ROM.
  2. Read the Lectura section in the workbook section of the Student Activities Manual and do the corresponding activities.
