Day 3

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Review Expresiones útiles by asking students questions using the expressions.
  2. Work through the Práctica activities for Estructura 5.1 with the class.
  3. Do the Comunicación activities for Estructura 5.1 with the class. Students will work in pairs for activity 4.
  4. Work through the Práctica activities for Estructura 5.2 with the class.
  5. Do Comunicación activity 4 for Estructura 5.2 with the class. Follow the anno in the IAE to expand the activity. Put students in pairs for activities 5 and 6. Remind them of the spelling changes for –car and –gar verbs (see anno in the IAE).
  6. Present the painting and quote on the Lecturas section opener. Ask students how the quote can be applied to the picture. Use the suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for Lecturas in the Instructor’s Resource Manual to direct/expand the discussion. Ask students how the quote and picture tie into the lesson theme, La salud y el bienestar.
  7. Present the vocabulary list for 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2, modeling the Spanish words and expressions. Have students discuss the Conexión personal questions for 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2 in pairs. Have them read Contexto cultural and ask them what they think the play’s title may imply.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Read Antes de leer and study Vocabulario for 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2.
  2. Read 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2.
  3. Find specific examples of tragedy and humor in the play and decide on their purpose. (Refer to Análisis literario.)
  4. Prepare the Después de leer activities for 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2 for the next class.
  5. Continue preparing the activities for Enfoques from the ENFOQUES web site, to be submitted electronically before class on Day 5.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
  1. Do the exercises for Estructura 5.1 and Estructura 5.2 on the ENFOQUES CD-ROM.
