IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Present the vocabulary list for Poema 20 (p. 31), modeling the Spanish words and expressions. Discuss the Conexión personal (p. 31) questions in Antes de leer for Poema 20 with the class. Encourage students to use the vocabulary just presented.
  2. Ask students what they know of Pablo Neruda. Direct their attention to Sobre el autor (p. 34).
  3. Ask students to read Poema 20 aloud (pp. 34–35). After lines 10, 20, and 32, have students summarize the poem’s content.
  4. Work through Después de leer activities 1, 2, and 3 for Poema 20 (p. 36) with the class. Have students use the personification charts they completed to aid in answering activity 2.
  5. Have a few volunteers read aloud their paragraph for Después de leer activity 4 for Poema 20 (p. 36). Put students in pairs and have them imagine orally the same characteristics as they apply to the poet.
  6. Put students in pairs and have them complete Después de leer activity 5 for Poema 20 (p. 36). Have students present their dialogs to the class.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study Estructura 1.3 (pp. 22–23) and Estructura 1.4 (pp. 26–27).
  2. Prepare the Práctica and Comunicación activities for Estructura 1.3 (pp. 24–25) and Estructura 1.4 (pp. 28–29) for oral work during the next class.
  3. Finish preparing the activities for Enfoques from the ENFOQUES web site, to be submitted electronically before the next class.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
  1. Do the corresponding exercises for Estructura 1.3 and Estructura 1.4 in the workbook section of the Student Activities Manual.
  2. Do the corresponding exercises for Estructura 1.3 and Estructura 1.4 in the lab manual section of the Student Activities Manual in conjunction with the Lab Audio CD or MP3 Files Audio CD-ROM.
