IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Review Expresiones útiles (p. 7) by asking students questions using the expressions.
- Have students do Práctica activity 1 for Estructura 1.1 (p. 16) in pairs. Work through Práctica activities 2 and 3 (p. 16) with the class.
- Work through Comunicación activity 4 for Estructura 1.1 (p. 17) with the class. Have students do activity 5 in pairs.
- Work through the Práctica activities for Estructura 1.2 (p. 20) with the class.
- Have students do Comunicación activities 4 and 5 for Estructura 1.2 (p. 21) in pairs. Then have them write out their answers to Comunicación activity 6, part A, and work in groups of six for part B.
- Present the painting and quote on the Lecturas section opener (p. 32). Use the suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions in the Instructor’s Resource Manual.
- Explain to students how they should approach reading a literary work in Spanish. Preview and explain the purpose of the Análisis literario, Estrategia de lectura, and Vocabulario subsections in Antes de leer for Poema 20 (p. 33).
ASSIGNMENT
- Study the Vocabulario for Poema 20 (p. 31).
- Read Antes de leer for Poema 20 (p. 31).
- Read Poema 20 (pp. 32–35).
- Complete the personification chart in Análisis literario (p. 31).
- Prepare the Después de leer activities for Poema 20 (p. 36) for the next class. Write a paragraph for activity 4.
- Continue preparing the activities for Enfoques from the ENFOQUES web site, to be submitted electronically before class on Day 5.
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
- Do the exercises for Estructura 1.1 and Estructura 1.2 on the ENFOQUES CD-ROM.
