Lección 8 - Quarter System

Day 1

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
1. Present the Communicative Goals for Lección 8. Use the lesson opener photo to orient students to the topic of restaurants and meals as suggested in PREVIEW in the IAE.
2. Introduce the Preparación section by mentioning some dishes and asking students to tell the ingredients needed to make them as described in SUGGESTION in the IAE.
3. Present the vocabulary using the Overhead Transparency and the illustrations and lists in the student text, modeling correct pronunciation for student repetition.
4. Review color vocabulary by asking the colors of food items such as las bananas and los tomates, as suggested in EXPANSION in the IAE.
5. Go over the VARIACIÓN LÉXICA in the IAE in preparation for the A escuchar activities.
6. Have students do A escuchar activities 1 and 2 in conjunction with the Textbook Audio CD.
7. Have students do A practicar activity 3 in pairs and list major food categories on the board to categorize the food items from the vocabulary list as suggested in EXPANSION in the IAE.
8. If there is time, use a copy of the food pyramid and have students use magazine photos to categorize into the major food groups, as suggested in TEACHING OPTION in the IAE.

ASSIGNMENT
1. Have students complete activities 4 and 5 from A practicar.
2. Have students prepare A conversar activity 6 for the next class.

ADDITIONAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
1. Have students complete the exercises for Lesson 8 Preparación in the Workbook section of the Workbook/Video Manual.
2. Have students do the exercises for Lesson 8 Preparación in the Lab Manual in conjunction with the Lab Audio CDs or MP3 Files Audio CD-ROM.
3. Have students work through the Preparación section for Lesson 8 on the Interactive CD-ROM.
