IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Present the painting and quote on the Cultura section opener. Use the suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for Lecturas in the Instructor’s Resource Manual. Ask students to read aloud their paragraphs interpreting either the picture or the quote.
  2. Present the vocabulary list, modeling the Spanish words and expressions.
  3. Present the profile on Wifredo Lam and have students discuss the Conexión personal questions in Antes de leer in pairs. Ask for volunteers to tell the class about their favorite Hispanic artist and to show examples of his/her work.
  4. Read Contexto cultural with the class. Follow the suggestion in the anno to ask students what they know about Caribbean culture.
  5. Have students read aloud the first few paragraphs of Perfil: Wifredo Lam. Ask them to describe Wifredo Lam and his early life.
  6. Collect and correct the stories that students wrote for Atando cabos step 2.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the Vocabulario for Perfil: Wifredo Lam.
  2. Read Perfil: Wifredo Lam and prepare the Después de leer activities for the next class.
  3. Use the library or the Internet to learn about the Spanish Civil War and Batista’s regime in Cuba.
  4. Go to the VENTANAS web site and prepare the Cultura activity to be submitted electronically before class on Day 12.
