Lección 9 - Lecturas: Quarter System

Day 1

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Ask for volunteers to read aloud their paragraphs explaining their feelings about/opinions on either the quote or the painting on the Literatura section opener for Lección 9. Use the suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for Lecturas in the Instructor’s Resource Manual to direct/expand the discussion. Ask students how the quote and picture tie into the lesson theme, La cultura popular y los medios de comunicación.
  2. Present the vocabulary list for Tiempo libre, modeling the Spanish words and expressions.
  3. Have students discuss the Conexión personal questions in Antes de leer in pairs. Ask pairs to summarize their discussions for the class and to share their criteria for selecting one news publication over another. Encourage students to use the vocabulary just presented.
  4. Read Contexto cultural with the class.
  5. Present Análisis literario and Estrategia de lectura.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the Vocabulario for Tiempo libre.
  2. Read Tiempo libre.
  3. Draw conclusions about the symbolism of the event described (Análisis literario and Estrategia de lectura).
  4. Prepare the Después de leer activities for Tiempo libre for the next class. Do activity 4 in writing.
  5. Go to the VENTANAS web site and prepare the Literatura activity to be submitted electronically before class on Day 6.
