IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Ask for volunteers to read aloud their
paragraphs explaining their feelings about/opinions on either the quote or the
painting on the Literatura section opener for Lección 7.
Ask students to tell you about Diego Rivera and Pablo Picasso. Use the
suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for Lecturas in the
Instructor’s Resource Manual to direct/expand the discussion. Ask students
how the quote and picture tie into the lesson theme, La economía y el
trabajo.
- Present the vocabulary list for El
avaro, modeling the Spanish words and expressions.
- Have students discuss the
Conexión personal questions in Antes de leer in
pairs. Ask pairs to summarize their discussions for the class. Encourage
students to use the vocabulary just presented.
- Read Contexto cultural with the class.
Follow the suggestion in the anno in the IAE to elicit students’ thoughts
on why the Incas and the conquistadors had such differing views on
gold.
- Present Análisis literario and
Estrategia de
lectura.
ASSIGNMENT
- Study the Vocabulario for El
avaro.
- Read El avaro.
- Be ready to discuss any prior knowledge you
had that helped or hindered with your understanding of the story (Estrategia
de lectura).
- Prepare the Después de leer
activities for El avaro for the next class. Do activity 4 in
writing.
- Go to the VENTANAS web site and
prepare the Literatura activity to be submitted electronically
before class on Day 6.
