IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Warm up the class by asking question using
the vocabulary presented on p. 133 and p. 137.
- Discuss the Conexión personal
questions for El derecho al delirio with the class.
- Follow the suggestion in the anno in the IAE
to discuss the “missing people” issue in Latin America and
elsewhere. Direct students’ attention to the photograph and ask what they
know about Pinochet.
- Direct students’ attention to Sobre
el autor and ask them how the political realities of Latin America have
affected Galeano.
- Have students read aloud the first few
paragraphs of El derecho al delirio. Stop them after each of the first
four paragraphs and ask them to summarize each paragraph. As students begin to
read the fifth paragraph, remind them to pay attention to cataloguing
(Análisis literario) and to what Galeano means by
delirio.
ASSIGNMENT
- Read El derecho al
delirio.
- Decide why Galeano chose to catalog his ideas
(Análisis literario) and what his purpose was in writing the essay
(Estrategia de lectura).
- Prepare Después de leer
activities 1, 2, and 3 for El derecho al delirio for the next
class.
- Continue preparing the Literatura
activity from the VENTANAS web site to be submitted electronically
before class on Day 6.
