IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Warm up the class by asking question using
the vocabulary presented on p. 99 for Biografía, p. 103 for 1 x
1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2, and p. 128 for La hora de comer.
- Put students in pairs and have them work
through Antes de ver el corto.
- Have students discuss the Conexión
personal questions for 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2 in pairs. Ask them,
based on their reading of Contexto cultural, what they think the
play’s title may imply.
- Direct students’ attention to Sobre
el autor. Ask them to look for the elements of tragedy and humor in the play
as they read.
- Read the first scene of 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1
+ 1 = 2 aloud with the class. Ask students to describe the setting and each
character and to reflect on the author’s purpose. Have them summarize in
one or two lines the main issues presented in the scene. Ask them what they
think will happen in the following two
scenes.
ASSIGNMENT
- Read 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 =
2.
- Find specific examples of tragedy and humor
in the play and decide on their purpose. (Refer to Análisis
literario.)
- Prepare Después de leer
activities 1, 2, and 3 for 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2 for the next
class.
- Continue preparing the Literatura
activity from the VENTANAS web site to be submitted electronically
before class on Day 6.
