IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
Direct students’ attention to Sobre
el autor (p. 52). Ask them what type of social engagement issues they
perceive in Conciencia breve.
Ask students to read Conciencia breve
aloud (pp. 52–53). After each paragraph, ask students what their
predictions were about the story and how accurate their predictions were.
Discuss the tone of the story and which details reveal the narrator’s
attitude toward his subject.
Work through Después de leer
activity 1 for Conciencia breve (p. 54) with the class. Then put students
in pairs and have them come up with at least three questions they could ask to
verify that classmates understood the story’s main theme. Have each pair
ask their questions of the class.
Work through Después de leer
activity 2 for Conciencia breve (p. 54) with the class.
Ask students to think about situations in
which they could have a “momentary surge of conscience” and discuss
them with the
class.
ASSIGNMENT
Prepare Después de leer
activities 3 and 4 for Conciencia breve (p. 54) for the next
class.
Continue preparing the Literatura
activity from the VENTANAS web site to be submitted electronically
before class on Day 6.
