Lección 1 - Lecturas: Quarter System

Day 1

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Introduce yourself, present the course syllabus, and explain the course objectives.
  2. Present the painting and quote on the Literatura section opener (p. 2). Use the suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for Lecturas in the Instructor’s Resource Manual.
  3. Present the vocabulary list (p. 3), modeling the Spanish words and expressions.
  4. Discuss the Conexión personal (p. 3) questions in Antes de leer with the class. Encourage students to use the vocabulary just presented. Have students read the Contexto cultural (p. 3).
  5. Explain to students how they should approach reading a literary work in Spanish. (See Suggestions for Using Literatura and Cultura, page IAE-10).
  6. Present and explain the purpose of the Análisis literario, Estrategia de lectura, and Vocabulario subsections in Antes de leer (p. 3).
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study Vocabulario (p. 3).
  2. Read Poema 20 (pp. 4–5).
  3. Complete the personification chart in Análisis literario (p. 3).
  4. Prepare Después de leer activities 1 and 2 for Poema 20 (p. 6) for the next class.
  5. Go to the VENTANAS web site and prepare the Literatura activity to be submitted electronically before the end of class on Day 6.
