IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Ask for volunteers to read aloud their
paragraphs explaining their feelings about/opinions on either the quote or the
painting on the Literatura section opener for Lección 11.
Use the suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for Lecturas
in the Instructor’s Resource Manual to direct/expand the discussion. Ask
students how the quote and picture tie into the lesson theme, La
tecnología y la ciencia.
- Present the vocabulary list for Primer
encuentro, modeling the Spanish words and expressions.
- Have students work in small groups to discuss
the Conexión personal questions and complete the chart in
Antes de leer. Ask students to consider why extraterrestrials are usually
depicted as unsightly. Ask each group to summarize their discussion for the
class. Encourage students to use the vocabulary just presented.
- Read Contexto cultural with the class.
- Present Análisis literario and
Estrategia de
lectura.
ASSIGNMENT
- Study the Vocabulario for Primer
encuentro.
- Read Primer encuentro.
- Decide whether the ending was a surprise or
not. List the details that made the surprise ending logical and a consistent
outcome (Análisis literario) or list the details and conventions
that helped you predict the ending (Estrategia de lectura).
- Prepare the Después de leer
activities for Primer encuentro for the next class.
- Go to the VENTANAS web site and
prepare the Literatura activity to be submitted electronically
before class on Day 4.
