Day 2

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Direct students’ attention to Sobre el autor. Ask them how Valladares’s experiences are reflected in La mejor tinta.
  2. Have students read the poem aloud, pausing at the end of a line only when the meaning requires a pause (Estrategia de lectura). Ask students to point out examples of repetition, alliteration, onomatopoeia, internal rhyme, and imagery (Análisis literario).
  3. Follow the suggestion in the anno in the IAE to have students analyze the poem’s title.
  4. Work through the Después de leer activities for La mejor tinta with the class. Students will work in pairs for activities 3 and 4. Follow the suggestions in the annos in the IAE to have students use si clauses with compound tenses to speculate on the life they would have led in the poet’s situation and to discuss why writers do not accept being silenced.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the Vocabulario for La continuidad de los parques.
  2. Read and prepare Antes de leer for La continuidad de los parques.
  3. Read La continuidad de los parques.
  4. Prepare the Después de leer activities for La continuidad de los parques for the next class. Do activity 3, item 2, and activity 4 in writing.
  5. Continue preparing the Literatura activity from the VENTANAS web site to be submitted electronically before class on Day 4.
