Day 3

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Put students in small groups to discuss the Conexión personal questions in Antes de leer for Dos palabras. Encourage students to use the vocabulary for the reading in their discussions.
  2. Direct students’ attention to Sobre el autor. Ask students what they know about the political context in Chile in the 1970s. Provide details if needed.
  3. Ask students to list details in Dos palabras that are fantastic, magical, and impossible and discuss how they fit into the daily life that the story presents. Ask students how these details make the story an example of magical realism (Análisis literario).
  4. Work through Después de leer activity 1 for Dos palabras with the class.
  5. Put students in pairs for Después de leer activities 2, 3, and 4 for Dos palabras.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Read and prepare Atando cabos in preparation for the next class.
  2. Finish preparing the Literatura activity from the VENTANAS web site to be submitted electronically before the next class.
