IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
- Direct students’ attention to Sobre
el autor. Ask them how Vallejo’s proclivity for complexity is seen in
Masa.
- Have students read the poem aloud. Ask them
to paraphrase the last line of each stanza in different ways (Análisis
literario and Estrategia de lectura). Have students compare the
effect of Vallejo’s original line and the effect of their
paraphrases.
- Work through Después de leer
activities 1, 2, and 3 for Masa with the class. Put students in small
groups for activity 4. Have students compare their opinions with
Vallejo’s. Ask each group to summarize its discussion for the
class.
- If possible, play for students Daniel
Viglietti’s version of Masa set to music. (The album Canciones
para mi América is available on CD.)
- Preview the Antes de leer section for
Dos palabras.
- Collect and correct the paragraphs students
wrote for Después de leer activity 5 for
Masa.
ASSIGNMENT
- Study the Vocabulario for Dos
palabras.
- Read and prepare Antes de leer for
Dos palabras.
- Read Dos palabras.
- Prepare the Después de leer
activities for Dos palabras for the next class.
- Continue preparing the Literatura
activity from the VENTANAS web site to be submitted electronically
before class on Day 4.
