Day 2

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Have students identify the main subject of each stanza of Biografía. Have students discuss the speaker’s attitude toward each set of commands (Análisis literario) and ask them to compare their own attitudes and reactions to the commands (Estrategia de lectura).
  2. Work through Después de leer activity 1 for Biografía with the class. Then put students in pairs to complete activities 2 and 3.
  3. In small groups, have students complete Después de leer activity 4 for Biografía. Have each group write their commands on the board and peer correct the commands.
  4. Present 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2. Have students discuss the Conexión personal questions in pairs.
  5. Read the first scene of 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2 aloud with the class. Ask students to describe the setting and each character and to reflect on the author’s purpose. Have them summarize in one or two lines the main issues presented in the scene. Ask them what they think will happen in the following two scenes.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the Vocabulario for 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2.
  2. Read Antes de leer and 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2.
  3. Find specific examples of tragedy and humor in the play and decide on their purpose. (Refer to Análisis literario.)
  4. Prepare the Después de leer activities for 1 x 1 = 1, pero 1 + 1 = 2 for the next class.
  5. Continue preparing the Literatura activity from the VENTANAS web site to be submitted electronically before class on Day 4.
