Day 2

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Direct students’ attention to Sobre el autor. Ask them how El viaje illustrates the quality of intensity that Cristina Fernández Cubas mentions.
  2. Work through Después de leer activities 1 and 2 for El viaje with the class.
  3. Have students summarize the story in one sentence, as suggested in the anno in the IAE (p. 80).
  4. Ask students to discuss the narrator’s purpose in recording this anecdote (Análisis literario). What inferences did they make as they read the story and thought about the purpose (Estrategia de lectura)?
  5. Put students in groups of three and have them peer correct each other’s paragraphs for Después de leer activity 4 for El viaje. As a class, discuss the value of traveling.
  6. Put students in pairs and have them work through Después de leer activity 3 for El viaje.
  7. Preview the Antes de leer section for El contrato.
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the Vocabulario for El contrato.
  2. Read El contrato.
  3. Identify sentences that show the narrator as a character and those that show him as a storyteller. (Refer to Análisis literario.)
  4. Prepare the Después de leer activities for El contrato for the next class.
  5. Continue preparing the Literatura activity from the VENTANAS web site to be submitted electronically before class on Day 4.
