IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Discuss thematic parallels between the video Adiós mamá and the story Conciencia breve. Ask students about similarities and differences.
  2. Show the video Adiós mamá again and work through Videoteca Después de ver el corto activity 4 (p. 73) with the class. Have students work in pairs to complete activity 5.
  3. Ask students to tell you about Jorge Ramos’s life, both personal and professional.
  4. Work through Después de leer activities 1 and 2 for Perfil: Jorge Ramos (p. 66) with the class.
  5. Have students do Después de leer activity 3 for Perfil: Jorge Ramos (p. 66) in groups of four.
  6. Begin the Antes de leer section for De salsas, siestas y otros bonitos tópicos (p. 67). Present the vocabulary list, modeling the Spanish words and expressions, and do the Conexión personal questions (p. 67) with the class. Have students read the Contexto cultural (p. 67); go over the questions with the class.
  7. Collect and correct the summaries students wrote for Videoteca Después de ver el corto activity 6 (p. 73).
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the Vocabulario for De salsas, siestas y otros bonitos tópicos (p. 67).
  2. Read De salsas, siestas y otros bonitos tópicos (pp. 68–69) and prepare the Después de leer activities (p. 70) for the next class.
  3. Prepare Videoteca Después de ver el corto activity 7 for the next class (p. 73).
  4. Go to the VENTANAS web site and prepare the Cultura activity to be submitted electronically before class on Day 8.
