Day 1

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
  1. Ask for volunteers to read aloud their paragraphs explaining how the quote on the Literatura section opener for Lección 3 (p. 50) can be applied to the picture. Use the suggestions found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for Lecturas in the Instructor’s Resource Manual to direct/expand the discussion. Ask students how the quote and picture tie into the lesson theme, La vida diaria.
  2. Present the vocabulary list (p. 51), modeling the Spanish words and expressions.
  3. Discuss the Conexión personal (p. 51) questions in Antes de leer with the class. Encourage students to use the vocabulary just presented. Have students read the Contexto cultural (p. 51).
  4. Present Análisis literario and Estrategia de lectura (p. 51).
ASSIGNMENT
  1. Study the Vocabulario for Conciencia breve (p. 51).
  2. Read Conciencia breve (pp. 52–53).
  3. Decide on the tone of the story (Análisis literario, p. 51) and as you read, write down your predictions about what will happen next (Estrategia de lectura, p. 51).
  4. Prepare the Después de leer activities for Conciencia breve (p. 54) for the next class.
  5. Go to the VENTANAS web site and prepare the Literatura activity to be submitted electronically before class on Day 4.
