ACTIVITIES
- Introduce
yourself, present the course syllabus, and
explain the course objectives.
- Present the
painting and quote on the Literatura
section opener (p. 2). Use the suggestions
found in Additional Teaching Suggestions for
Lecturas in the Instructor’s
Resource Manual.
- Present the
vocabulary list (p. 3), modeling the Spanish
words and expressions.
- Discuss
the Conexión personal
(p. 3) questions in Antes de leer with
the class. Encourage students to use the vocabulary
just presented. Have students read the Contexto
cultural (p. 3).
- Explain to
students how they should approach reading
a literary work in Spanish. (See Suggestions
for Using Literatura and Cultura,
page IAE-10).
- Present and
explain the purpose of the Análisis
literario, Estrategia de lectura, and
Vocabulario subsections in Antes de
leer (p. 3).
ASSIGNMENT

- Read Poema
20 (pp. 4–5).
- Complete
the personification chart in Análisis
literario (p. 3).
- Prepare the
Después de leer activities for
Poema 20 (p. 6) for the next class.
- Go

the Literatura activity
to be submitted electronically by the end
of class on Day 4.
